Batman Comics Online

Batman Comics Online

He died far too young and we were cheated out of a lot of good work, but what we do have was a very fond period for me, especially in the early 80's. Unlike say, Neal Adams or Jim Aparo or Marshall Rogers, Newton's Batman, while no less gothic, wasn't sleek in his appearance. There was something more naturalistic about his figures. They looked like flesh and bone and muscle. He was part of the introduction of not just Jason Todd back we he was a circus kid and not a sociopathic street punk, but also of Killer Croc, back when he was still a deformed man and not a monster. It was great run and I enjoy re-reading it when I visit my parents. My opinion of Don Newton was skewed for a while, since my only exposure to him was in his NEW GODS comics (where his art.......just did not fit or work), but his BATMAN stuff worked and looked mighty nice.
